The physical space and infrastructure required to adjust to the specific needs of a project like Delphinus Riviera Maya and Delphinus Costa Maya, became a challenge. Both spaces were built inside natural areas seeking the ideal conditions for dolphins to develop as closely as possible to the way wild life populations do. We had as a result one of the most beautiful places ever built in the Mayan Riviera, located inside the Xcaret Park on southern Mexico, only 43 miles (70 km.) away from Cancun.
The minimum surface required for each dolphin in accordance with the specifications of the Mexican Official Norms, corresponds to 8.86m2 (95 ft2), and the necessary water volume for each cetacean is 21.53 m3 (760.3 ft3), with a minimum depth of 2 meters (6.5 ft). In our delphinariums and swim with dolphins programs, the area and volume is ten times bigger than what is required by official dispositions, and even our depth varies between 3.5 (11.5 ft) and 4 meters (13 ft).
