Once our company was established, we initiated in 1991 the legal requests to obtain the necessary permits, as well as the design and construction of the Escollera Delphinarium in front of Xcaret beach. A jetty was built in order to protect the coast and allow the proper needs of different isolated areas for veterinary services, quarantine, training, and interaction. We also began the first capture at the Lazaro Cardenas area in the Holbox Island waters.
Every dolphin capture has been done, with the assurance of wellbeing for each individual, offering them optimal conditions of security. During the first capture, our partners and executives participated in order to comprehend the commitment we have acquired thru our company.
After this successful operation, a commitment with the Biology Institute of the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) was settled, in order to begin an extensive research of the area. This work became the Masters' Degree investigation of Biologists Alberto Delgado, who as Chief of the Investigation Department of Via Delphi has become a valuable and essential member of our team. After several month of arduous work, we were able to welcome our first group of dolphins that made the Xcaret delphinarium their new home. Months of adaptation, knowledge and training resulted in the first two interactive programs to swim with dolphins that Via Delphi offered to the public on January 1992.
Since then our delphinariums manage a daily record in order to supervise the nutrition and behavioral changes of each dolphin. Thru constant observation, we can assure our animals' wellbeing and prevent any type of illness. Our team of veterinarians and trainers coordinate periodical clinical analysis in order to identify infections, parasites, and the nutrition and reproduction status of our dolphins. Nowadays we operate our own laboratory were we carry on all of the necessary clinical exams, and we have acquired an endoscopy and ultrasound equipment.
Our continuing dolphin training is considered of great importance in order to maintain very low levels of animal stress and obtain the highest performance in their abilities thru stimulation. These procedures facilitate the interaction with our visitors and allow us to obtain samples for clinical analysis.
