Mayan Children and Celebrities Presented Yatzin and Yaxnak, 2 baby-dolphins, in Delphinus!

For the third consecutive year, Delphinus presented in a moving ceremony the dolphin babies who were born in the dolphinarium located in the echo-archeological park Xcaret. On this occasion it presented two dolphin calves last May 8th., which will be named Yatzin (The Beloved, in Spanish) and Yaxnak (Rain).

In line with the tradition established from the beginnings of Delphinus, the names of the young marine mammals are in Mayan language, which were chosen through the votes cast by the children of Quintana Roo who were invited to participate sending a drawing entitled “Name the dolphin”, with a large participation of the little ones. Delphinus rewarded three winners with swim with dolphins programs for four persons for each one of them.

Entertainment journalists Mauricio Clark and Laura G who appear in the morning news program “Primero Noticias” headed by Carlos Loret de Mola and Daniel “Chepe” Guerrero, captain of the Atlante soccer team, were the “godfathers” together with 15 children from the Mayan community Guadalupe, who were responsible of publicizing the names of the small dolphins on behalf of the children of Quintana Roo.

With these births, Delphinus gets to 73 dolphins, 43 of them born in its facilities, which means that 60% of its population was born in its dolphinariums in addition to keeping alive the Guinness World Record that was established in 2009, when eleven dolphins were born and survived throughout 2008.

The event closed with a touching moment when the “mini-godparents” received as a surprise a toy they had always wanted but they had never had due to their precarious economic situation. The toys were donated through the program “If you dream it is possible” of Televisa Foundation and Cancun volunteers of Volaris.
